Unraveling complex nucleation pathways in natural and engineered cements – NUANCE
Carbonate biominerals and engineered cements such as Portland cement are formed via the initial precipitation of disordered solids, herein called precursors. These precursors are highly hydrated and plastic, allowing the molding of intricate shapes once the cement hardens. This project addressed the factors controlling the crystallization of these precursors for both natural and engineered cements.

Meiotic recombination in plants-controlling the transition of DNA double-strand breaks to genetic crossovers – MEIOREC
The aim of MEIOREC is to decipher the DNA Double Strand Break (DSB) to crossover transitional steps and evaluate strategies to manipulate crossover formation using model species thereby laying the foundation for subsequent translation of the most promising into crops.
Elucidating the role of gas flows around galaxies with 3D observations and numerical simulations – 3DGASFLOWS

Elucidating the multifaceted functions of protein acetyltransferases in plant stress response and regulation of metabolism. – KatNat
The overarching aim of the KatNat project is to provide a mechanistic understanding of protein acetylation in plants, with a particular focus on investigating the enzymes that catalyze this modification (Nt- and K-acetyltransferases) and the resultant effects on proteostasis, photosynthesis, and metabolism.

Enzyme platform for the synthesis of chiral aminoalcohols – TRALAMINOL
Amino alcohols are found in very diverse classes of natural products which are of great importance due to their bioactivity, and can also be used as building blocks to obtain pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. The chemical synthesis of enantiopure amino alcohols is difficult and typically requires many steps, the use of toxic/hazardous compounds, large amounts of energy, and generates toxic waste.

Icône de validation par la communauté
Ouvrir dans Google Traduction
•
Com
Investigating large scale bioreactor effects in microbial application – ScaleApp
Industrial production in large-scale bioreactors is state-of-the-art. However bioprocess conditions in large reactors are heterogenous in different regions of the reactor. Imperfect mixing and limited oxygen cause parameter gradients and performance loss during scale-up from laboratory to production. Conventional approaches rely on estimates. The ScaleApp project aims to make scale-up more predictive using advanced methods and devices such as sensor technology, scale-down bioreactors and CFD.
Exploring the effects of microcalcification on plaque vulnerability – MICROEXPLORATION
Cardiovascular mortality often relies on the rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque, which is a pathological accumulation of cholesterol in arteries. Plaques also accumulate calcium, but the impact of calcium deposition on plaque stability, and the putative beneficial effect of its prevention remain to be determined.
