Each year, millions of tons of plastic seep into the environment (20 Mt in 2020)¹. To combat this major threat to ecosystems, animal health, and human health, and in keeping with a One Health approach, scientists from all disciplines mobilised alongside public decision makers. They included Xavier Cousin, a member of the Scientists’ Coalition for an Effective Plastics Treaty, exotoxicologist, and Inrae researcher who coordinates the ANR-supported BIOMIC project, which assesses the effects of biodegradable microplastics on fish microbiota.

The H5N1 strain of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) left Asia in late 2020¹, quickly spreading across the globe. A growing threat for wild vertebrate populations, this panzootic² reached especially remote territories worldwide, including French Southern and Antarctic Lands (TAAF) in October 2024³. In this natural laboratory, a refuge for unique endemic biodiversity, Thierry Boulinier, an ecologist and CNRS Research Professor at the Centre for Functional and Evolutionary Ecology (CEFE), studies marine birds, their parasites, and the circulation of pathogenic agents through multiple projects supported by the ANR.

Le LabCom SeaMind entre le laboratoire NutriNeuro (INRAE, université de Bordeaux, Bordeaux INP) et la société Abyss Ingredients vise à prévenir et corriger les troubles cognitifs tout au long de la vie à travers des solutions alimentaires innovantes et bio-sourcées. Financé par l’Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR) à hauteur de 363 k€ sur 54 mois, le Laboratoire Commun SeaMind a été inauguré le mardi 24 mars 2026 à Bordeaux.

Caroline Méjean, a Senior Researcher at INRAE (UMR MoISA), explores the transformation of food systems in French overseas territories. Via the TI-FIG and CARI projects, supported in connection with France 2030’s Food – Microbiomes (SAMS) PEPR research programme, she gathers robust data to guide public policy and strengthen food security for the most vulnerable populations.

Studying the technologies that measure antibiotic resistance and categorise antibiotic use from the perspective of the social sciences provides new insights into this major public health challenge. That is the starting point for the STATIC project coordinated by Henri Boullier, a sociologist of science, CNRS researcher at IRISSO, and winner of the Junior Chair for the Antibiotic Resistance Priority Research Programme led by Inserm, and operated by the ANR on behalf of the French government in connection with France 2030.

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the primary global threats to animal health, human health, and the environment. With this challenge in mind, Marie-Cécile Ploy, a Professor of Microbiology and the Director of the RESINFIT Laboratory (Antimicrobials: Molecular Supports of Resistance and Therapeutic Innovations), explores the transmission mechanisms of resistance genes, and helps to structure and coordinate national and European networks.

Les inégalités d’accès à la mobilité urbaine sont nombreuses. Elles restent fortement marquées par le genre, révélant des écarts persistants dans l’accès et l’usage des mobilités au quotidien. À l’occasion de la Journée Internationale des Droits des Femmes, focus sur le projet européen Fair Mobility, lancé en décembre 2023, qui contribue à rendre visibles ces disparités en les analysant au croisement du genre, de l’égalité et de la diversité sociale. Coordonné en France par Caroline Gallez, directrice de recherche à l’Université Gustave Eiffel, Chris Blache et Pascale Lapalud de l’association Genre et Ville, et cofinancé par l’ANR et la Commission européenne, ce projet s’inscrit dans une démarche de recherche-action visant à mieux comprendre et réduire ces inégalités, tout en formulant des recommandations de politiques publiques capables de produire des changements concrets.
