Specific Support for Research Works and Innovation Defense (ASTRID)
The French National Research Agency (ANR) launches in partnership with the French armament procurement agency (DGA), the 2013 programme ASTRID "specific support scheme for research works and innovation defense." This programme is entirely funded by the DGA and is implemented by the ANR.
ASTRID is a dedicated programme to support research projects with a highly exploratory and innovative nature. The maximum funding is €300 k and the project duration is between 18 and 36 months. Applications of the research funded are dual-use (both civilian and military).
This call for proposals aims to:
- Stimulate the opening of new research areas and maintain the innovation effort on topics of defense interest in line with the guidelines posted on the POS, the DGA basic research policy and its updated document
- Explore scientific and technical bottlenecks by promoting skills development and identification of technological breakthroughs, source of innovation beneficial to defense and civilian research and industry
It is expected that the follow-up of these projects can be undertaken within the framework of other ANR targeted calls for proposals or other funding mechanisms such as PEA (DGA upstream studies programmes).
The transverse nature of the ASTRID programme is demonstrated by the 9 thematic areas:
- Information Engineering and Robotics
- Fluids, Structures
- Acoustic and radioelectric waves
- Nanotechnology
- Photonics
- Materials, chemistry and energy
- Biology and Biotechnology
- Men and Systems
- Environment and Geosciences
An additional theme is devoted to “interdisciplinary priorities”.
