Joint call for proposal "Chlordécone II : societies and multi exposure"
Since the late 90s, the presence and effects of chlordecone have been the subject of extensive research. Monitoring has revealed high concentrations of chlordecone in water resources, as well as its continued presence in soils. Due to its persistence, environmental contamination caused by chlordecone is likely to last for centuries. Epidemiological studies have shown that the population of the French West Indies is highly exposed to chlordecone, particularly through the consumption of food products.
The initial results of the Chlordecone I call for projects (1er appel à projets conjoint Chlordécone) suggest the need to extend the research effort with a new Chlordecone II call for projects: “Societies and multi-exposures”. It will give a definite place to the human and social sciences and multi-exposures, while continuing the work already underway and consolidating cooperation between research teams and stakeholders in the overseas territories. The research priorities set out below are all part of a “One Health” approach, with population health as the ultimate goal.
This Chlordecone II (CHLD II) call will be supported by the French National Research Agency (ANR), which will fund the research activities of the selected projects. The call is intended to be implemented in partnership with the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique and the Guadeloupe Regional Council (CR971), in continuity with the actions carried out in recent years. Discussions are ongoing to further define the modalities of this partnership.
