JCJC breakthrough 2026

Designed to improve France’s success rate in European Research Council (ERC) calls, JCJC breakthrough is a funding programme set up by ANR as part of its Work Programme 2026. Only JCJC laureates who wish candidate to ERC call in any ERC research disciplines (LS, PE, SH) could apply to JCJC breakthrough programme.

The JCJC breakthrough programme aims to:

  • encourage scientific excellence by supporting high quality applications ;
  • strengthen French participation and increasing France’s rate of success in upcoming ERC calls;

Starting two years before the end of their ANR JCJC project and up to one year after its completion, the project leader may apply for dedicated financial support, conditional on submitting a proposal to an upcoming ERC call.

The goal is to give researchers a leg up when it comes to applying to the ERC Starting Grant, Consolidator Grant or Advanced Grant call, thereby giving them firm foothold from which to succeed. Projects are funded to 75 000€ (directs costs) for a duration of 24 months.

ANR has made special arrangements to speed up decision-making and funding. The submission application is a survey in order for the candidate to draw the future part B1 of the ERC application. This survey will be sent to administrative support of the applicants. The selection is only based on eligibility of the request.

Enhancing French scientific excellence and appeal

The funding programme JCJC breakthrough is part of France’s national strategy for strengthening French research and technological innovation aimed at increasing France’s influence and international scientific attractiveness.
