Greater Paris School of PLUral FRAncophonies, a graduate school of research on the POLitics of LAnguage

The Greater Paris School of 'FRAncophonies and Plurilingualisms: Politics of language' (FRAPP) offers excellent interdisciplinary Master's and Doctoral curriculums, with close ties to an innovative scientific programme on the connections between power and language. By comparing plural francophone societies to other plurilingual contexts, the aim is to develop an acute understanding of interactions between language policy, social imaginaries and the geo/biopolitical issues of the contemporary world. Internationally renowned for its research in these fields and with roots in the Greater Paris region, the FRAPP Graduate School is pursuing the dual objective of becoming a recognised centre of scientific expertise and training researchers to distinguish when socio-political issues and situations have a linguistic or language dimension. Spearheaded by UPEC (Université Paris-Est Créteil), a partner of the IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement), and supported by the AUF (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie), INALCO (Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales), the Quai Branly museum and the France-Florida Research Institute (centre of excellence, French Embassy, University of Florida), our consortium (11 research units and 3 doctoral schools) brings together specialists in language practices and linguistic policies and researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

The synergies between the different thematic programmes have given rise to a cross-disciplinary and unifying project: the Concise Multilingual Conceptual Repertoire. Featuring terms, ideas and concepts chosen for their representativeness in relation to contemporary debates in the Humanities and Social Sciences, the Concise Multilingual Conceptual Repertoire will reflect the circulation of knowledge between disciplines, academic traditions and languages. Our new resarch site will showcase the results of our programme, while also ensuring that it is fully accessible.
