Résumé

The LabEx ENS-ICFP reinforces ENS Physics department international openness, and interlocks its inclusive teaching, research and scientific valorization. Thanks to continuity in administrative management, reinforced processes have maintained efficient monitoring and dynamic of activities and projects.

A strong framework is implemented for its core activities:

- postdoctoral program of Junior Research Chairs (JRC),

- international Master's degree in fundamental physics,

- valorization of science through communication and events.

Scientific interweaving

Within ENS Physics department, it has been bringing together people, teams and subject matters, articulating research and teaching in a more legible and fruitful way. After 2019 merging of entities, detailed in last year report, the LabEx has become an essential tool of cooperation and coordination between LPENS and LKB, the two laboratories, with JRC holders being part of both.

During this critical year, scientific outreaching was limited to the yearly corporate meeting, remotely performed in November.

The FabLab, open workshop operational since 2019, allows digital fabrication, including 3D, for the widest audience in the department, a place of exchange between researchers and students from all teams.

International perspective

The LabEx now includes 14 former and 9 current JRC holders, with two more to come end of 2021:

  • 19 foreigners
  • 6 French with previous path abroad

150 students attend M1 and M2 of ICFP Master every year, with a large majority of students having studied abroad. International scholarship granted to 20 – 25 students, with housing secured at the CIUP if needed.

Two PhD fundings have been awarded to foreign students in 2020.
