The Joint Programming Initiative on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change (FACCE-JPI) brings together 21 countries that are committed to building an integrated European Research Area addressing the interconnected challenges of sustainable agriculture, food security and impacts of climate change. The partner organisations of the JPI have decided to launch a joint call for proposals in the frame of the FACCE SURPLUS action, under the ERA-NET Cofund scheme of Horizon 2020 of the European Commission. The indicative total available budget of the call amounts to 14 M€, including top-up funding from the EU.
Focused on bioeconomy, the present call aims at improving cooperation across the European Research Area in the areas of diverse, but integrated, food and non-food biomass production and transformation systems, including biorefining. It aims as well at supporting innovation and value creation from biomass and biorefineries in synergy with the environmentally sustainable intensification of agricultural and other biomass production taking into account the required economic, environmental and social conditions and resilience to climate change.
14 countries will participate in this call for proposals: Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, and United Kingdom.
Public research organisations and private companies will be able to submit a proposal. Only transnational projects will be funded: each consortium will have to include at least three partners from three different countries participating in the call.
Each agency will fund its own national teams; therefore the candidates will have to respect the eligibility rules of their respective agency. The ANR will fund the French teams only. The project evaluation will be based on peer review. In a two-stage submission process, pre-proposals will be submitted before March 4, 2015. Successful consortia at pre-proposal stage will be invited to submit a full proposal which will be evaluated by independent experts against a range of criteria.

|The Joint Programming Initiatives (JPI) seek to optimise national research in Europe, especially by harmonizing research programmes, building pan-European strategic agendas and launching calls for international projects to respond as effectively as possible to major societal challenges. In this context, FACCE provides and steers research to support sustainable agricultural production and economic growth, to contribute to a European bio-based economy, while maintaining and restoring ecosystem services under current and future climate change.|
