Investigating large scale bioreactor effects in microbial application – ScaleApp
Industrial production in large-scale bioreactors is state-of-the-art. However bioprocess conditions in large reactors are heterogenous in different regions of the reactor. Imperfect mixing and limited oxygen cause parameter gradients and performance loss during scale-up from laboratory to production. Conventional approaches rely on estimates. The ScaleApp project aims to make scale-up more predictive using advanced methods and devices such as sensor technology, scale-down bioreactors and CFD.
Investigating the plasticity and the differentiation potential of epithelial transition zone cells during normal and perturbed homeostasis – StemTZones
At numerous locations of the body, transition zone lies between two types of epithelia are frequently associated with neoplasia involving both type of tissues. These junctions between our organs allow us to have a continuous lining of tissues it is thus essential to understand how they participate in the inter-organ relationship and how crucial they are to preserve organ homeostasis and function.
Involvement of circulating fibrocytes in pathophysiology and prognosis of COVID-19 pneumonia – FIBROCO
High circulating levels of fibrocytes are correlated to an unfavourable outcome during acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. COVID-19 pneumonia shares common histological and inflammatory features with ARDS. We aimed to determine the involvement of circulating fibrocytes during the course of COVID-19 pneumonia, and to assess if fibrocytes could be a prognosis biomarker.
IoT gateway protection against software and communication threats – TrustGW
In the age of the Internet of Things, embedded communicating systems are becoming massively widespread in critical infrastructures. They contribute to a better control and optimization of these infrastructures to increase their efficiency, cost and use, but also to meet societal challenges. Unfortunately, they also contribute to the increase of the global attack surface of information systems, which represents an unprecedented threat.
IoniC LIquid Crystals: Towards TunAble-by-Design ElectroLytes – CITADEL
Its overarching goal is to deliver proof of concept demonstration of efficient nanoconfined ionic transport going beyond current state of the art performances of currently used electrolytes to trigger the dawn of safer-by-design next generations key enabling technology (KET) 2.0 solutions in reply to mankind’s energy needs.
Is the gut microbiota a key driver of social evolution in insects? – MicroSoc
Why and how animal social life emerged from solitary ancestors remains a long-standing question in biology. This project tests the hypothesis that social evolution is driven not only by benefits to group members but also by advantages gained by the microbes they host.
