Water JPI 2018 Joint Call for Proposals on “Closing the Water Cycle Gap – Sustainable Management of Water Resources” through the ERA-NET WaterWorks2017
As a member of the Water JPI, ANR has joined forces with 17 countries to launch the Water JPI 2018 Joint Call, a joint transnational call for projects to finance innovative research projects on the theme "Closing the water cycle gap – sustainable management of water resources", through the WaterWorks2017 ERA-NET Cofund.
The aim of the Water JPI 2018 Joint Call is to enable transnational collaborative research, development and innovation projects addressing questions relating to the water challenges faced by Europe and beyond, and to support the implementation of EU water policies. The scope of this call covers, in particular, the Water JPI Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA 2.0) Theme 5 “Closing the Water Cycle Gap – Improving Sustainable Water Resources Management”.
Proposals submitted under this call must address at least one of the following themes:
- Enabling sustainable management of water resources,
- Strengthening socio-economic approaches to water management, and
- Supporting tools for sustainable integrative management of water resources.
The Water JPI 2018 Joint Call will be funded by 20 Funding Partner Organisations (FPOs) from the following 18 countries: Belgium, Brazil, Cyprus, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Israel, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, South Africa, Sweden and Tunisia, and with the support of the European Commission.
The total estimated budget for this call for projects is 19.3 M€. ANR will finance the French teams on the three (3) themes above.
Only transnational projects consortia will be funded. Each consortium submitting a proposal must involve at least three (3) eligible independent partners coming from three (3) different countries whose FPO participate in the call, from which, at least two (2) eligible independent partners come from two (2) EU Member States or H2020 Associated countries whose FPO participates in the call.
Each FPO will finance their national partners, applicants must thus respect their corresponding FPO eligibility.
Proposals’ eligibility will be verified at two levels:
- a) the general eligibility criteria specific to the Call and
- b) the ANR eligibility rules (http://www.agence-nationale-recherche.fr/RF)

A French applicant (i.e. principal investigator) cannot be involved in more than three (3) proposals submitted under the Action Plan 2018 (all calls combined). An applicant can be involved in three (3) proposal as partner or in one (1) proposal as coordinator and two (2) other proposals as partner. This call is part of the 2018 Action Plan of ANR.
Funding will be awarded for a maximum of three (3) years. The maximum funding for French partners participating in the proposal will be 250 000 €. In the case of a French team taking over the coordination of the project (i.e. the project coordinator is one of the members of this team), the maximum budget granted for French partners participating in the proposal will be 300 000 €. ANR will exclusively fund French partners of the selected projects.
