The loss of biodiversity and the deterioration of ecological services or "ecosystemic services" are increasing at an unprecedented rate on both the European and global scale. This damage is impacting not just the natural world but human society as a whole. Financial support to the sciences related to biodiversity scientific questions should therefore provide a mean towards new answers for major societal and global problems.

The aim of this new call for proposals is to support the development of transnational collaborative projects addressing the following theme on biodiversity and its influence on animal, human and plant health.

This call will include two actions, supporting two different types of research projects:

  • Action A will support collaborative research projects, gathering different research teams generating new knowledge in particular based on the production of new primary data ;
  • Action B will support research synthesis projects, gathering individuals forming a working group which perform research and answer research questions using existing data sets. These research projects will not collect or produce new primary data; the core activity of these projects being synthesizing and/or analysing existing datasets (synthesizing concepts and ideas is also eligible). Note that these projects differ from systematic reviews or knowledge synthesis which are based on a synthesis of publications and reports.

Scientific teams are invited to form transnational consortia comprising research groups from at least three countries participating in the call for action A, and at least five countries participating in the call for action B.

An overall budget of ca. €9M has been provisionally reserved. ANR confirmed its contribution to the call for a maximum amount of €2 M.

Proposals will be evaluated according to criteria of scientific excellence, (policy relevance and societal impact (which includes stakeholder engagement), and quality and efficiency of the project implementation.
