Transnational Call for proposals in the framework of the ERA-NET 'E-Rare-2'

"Transnational programme on Rare diseases"

The ANR joins the ERA-NET E-Rare-2 to launch a third call for proposals (CFP) to fund transnational research projects on rare diseases. Nine countries from the European Research Area are joining this call: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Spain and Turkey.

The aim of this call is to promote transnational research collaborations on rare diseases.

Transnational research proposals must cover at least one of the following areas:

  • Definition of new nosological entities, epidemiological studies, genotype/phenotype correlations, natural history of diseases
  • Characterisation of the genetic/molecular basis of specific diseases
  • Pathophysiological and genetic studies of rare diseases
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic research (interventional clinical trials are excluded)

Research proposals shall concern one or more rare diseases and have a clear potential for clinical application. The added-value of transnational collaboration should be clearly demonstrated: gathering a critical mass of patients/biological material that would not be possible on a national level, sharing of resources (models, databases, diagnosis etc.), harmonization of data, sharing of specific know-how and/or innovative technologies, etc.

Each submitted proposal must involve a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 research groups from at least 3 different countries participating to this call (see list above).

Funding is granted for a maximum of three years.

The submission and evaluation process will be managed by the E-Rare-2 secretariat for the Joint Transnational Call 2011 (JTC 2011). Whilst applications will be submitted jointly by research groups from several countries, individual groups will be funded by the individual funding organisation of their country/region that is participating in the E-Rare-2 JTC 2011. Applicants are therefore subject to eligibility criteria of individual funding organisations.

There will be a two-stage submission procedure: joint pre-proposals (in English) must be received by the Joint Call Secretariat no later than 31st January 2011 and only pre-proposals that are selected by the international Scientific Evaluation Committee (SEC) will be invited to submit a full proposal.
