Mediterranean: an international call

In connection with the various societal challenges, ANR has developed multilateral partnerships with its European counterparts under the European action framework like ERA-NET, ERA -NET COFUND or Joint Programming Initiatives (JPI). These actions are complementary to the conventional collaborative projects framework programs. In this perspective, the emphasis is given on a multi reasoning prioritization of European activities and articulation of national and European tools.

In order to simplify the rules and facilitate collaborations and to contribute to the construction of the European Research Area, ANR is taking part of the ERA-NET ERANETMED

The objective is to contribute to the funding of European and international projects showing a high level of scientific excellence through the funding of the national teams.

The ERANETMED Project (Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation Through ERANET Joint Activities and Beyond), funded by the European Union under FP7, aims at proposing sustainable solutions for the environmental challenges of “Euro-Mediterranean vulnerable communities” intended as those communities leaving in areas –coastal zones or inland - in which local resources like biodiversity, land and water, energy or food are under serious threat by factors such as migration, environmental, socio-economic factors etc.

Therefore, it is of utmost importance – for the preservation and protection of local resources and ecosystems – to address the main environmental challenges of the region, contributing to a comprehensive and a holistic approach.  Communities and their resources and ecosystems in the Mediterranean region  suffer common threats due to unstable or severe environmental conditions, global climate change pressure and demographic change, particularly in coastal zones and inland arid areas where the access to and supply of resources is limited and under pressure.

Considering the need of a holistic, multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach for the preservation and protection of local resources in vulnerable communities, projects will address one or more of the following research questions:

  • 1. « Land &Water/ Food » and Environment
  • 2. Energy and Environment
  • 3. « Climate/demographic change » and Environment
  • 4. « Societies/Ecosystems » and Environment

The ANR is associated with 13 Euro-Mediterranean partners to start the second call of the ERA-NET ERANETMED. This call for proposals is opened from March, 30 2016.

This call includes the following countries: Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Spain, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey, with a budget of over 11 million euros.

Each funding agency funds its own national research teams in a multilateral project, selected on the basis of a peer review.

Deadline for submission of proposals: May 31, 2016.
