Joint Translational Call 2018 for research projects on Mental disorders

The ANR launches in collaboration with the ERA-NET NEURON a joint call to support multinational, collaborative research projects addressing mental disorders.

The present call is supported by 19 agencies located in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey.

The main focus of the call is on mental health and mental disorders. The proposals should contain original and novel research programs, based on collaborative added value to answer key questions on at least one of the following areas:

  • Fundamental research on the pathogenesis, etiology and/or resilience mechanisms for mental disorders. This may include the development of innovative or shared resources and new technologies for prevention, diagnosis or therapy of disease.
  • Clinical research to develop new strategies for prevention, diagnosis, patient stratification, therapy and/or rehabilitation for mental disorders.

The call will accept novel and original research proposals within the breadth of research understanding basic mechanisms of disease to proof-of-concept clinical studies in humans. These may include research on mood disorders (major depression, bipolar disorders), anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, autism spectrum disorders, substance use disorders, and other mental disorders.

Research questions may encompass the entire lifespan. Since many mental disorders develop during childhood, adolescence and early adulthood (< 25 years), it is a clear interest for society to find pharmacological, psychological therapies and brain stimulation therapies, besides new diagnostic strategies, to promote mental health in this focus group.

This call excludes research on neurodegenerative disorders. ANR cannot fund clinical trials.

The proposals should be submitted by consortia composed by a minimum of three and a maximum of five research groups, from at least three different countries. The inclusion of consortium partners from the following underrepresented countries Latvia, Romania and Slovakia increases the maximum allowed number of partners to six. No more than two research groups should be from the same country. Only the French parties of each selected consortium will be funded by the ANR.

Selected projects can be funded for a duration up to three years. Funding is expected to start early 2019.
