Joint Translational Call 2017 for research projects on synaptic dysfunction in disorders of the central nervous system

The ANR launches in collaboration with the ERA-NET NEURON a joint call to support multinational, collaborative research projects addressing the synaptic dysfunction in the context of neurological or mental diseases.

The present call is supported by 19 agencies located in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey.

The main focus of the call is on synaptic dysfunction in diseases of the central nervous system. The proposals should either address one or several neurological or mental diseases or propose cross disease approaches. The proposals should contain original and novel research programs, based on collaborative added value to answer key questions on at least one of the following areas:

  • Fundamental research on the pathogenesis and/or aetiology of synaptopathies. This may include the development of innovative or shared resources and new technologies for prevention, diagnosis or therapy of disease.
  • Clinical research, including the exploitation of existing clinical data sets, to develop new strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and therapy for diseases in which synaptic dysfunction plays a key role.

This call excludes research projects addressing peripheral nervous system diseases, purely basic research projects focused on synaptic function without a clear objective of addressing the synaptic dysfunction in the context of neurological and mental disorders. Research on neurodegenerative disorders will neither be eligible in the present call.

The proposals should be submitted by consortia composed by a minimum of three and a maximum of five research groups, from at least three different countries. The inclusion of consortium partners from the following underrepresented countries Latvia, Romania, Slovakia and Turkey increases the maximum allowed number of partners to six. No more than two research groups should be from the same country. Only the French parties of each selected consortium will be funded by the ANR.

Selected projects can be funded for a duration up to three years. Funding is expected to start early 2018.
