FutureFoodS Call 2025: Accelerating Food Sustainability - through Household Dietary Shifts, Trust and Transparency, and Innovations in Circular Food Processing Systems

The European Partnership for a sustainable Future of Food Systems (FutureFoodS) launches its 2nd co-funded call for transnational research projects. This call for proposals is co-funded by the European Commission.

The objective of the FutureFoodS Partnership is to mobilise European research and innovation to accelerate the transition of food chains towards circular food systems, operating within the planet boundaries. This includes current types of production, processing, distribution and consumption. A wide range of stakeholders are joining forces to build sustainable, interconnected and territorialised European food systems by 2050. The first FutureFoodS call for proposal aims more specifically to tackle the complex challenges making current European food systems unsustainable requires mobilizing knowledge, actors and resources through a food systems approach. The European food systems research and innovation (R&I) community has an important role to play in promoting the design and realisation of a food systems approach involving relevant food system actors.

The guiding elements for FutureFoodS projects are:

  • Transformative perspective
  • Inter- and transdisciplinarity
  • Multi-stakeholder engagement
  • Sustainability

Each application submitted under this call should focus on one of the three call topics listed below. The topic chosen should be clearly indicated in the proposal:

  1. Domestic food practices for enhancing sustainable and healthy diets
  2. Towards diverse, sustainable and circular food processing systems
  3. Importance of trust and transparency

The participating countries are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and Türkiye.
