Résumé de soumission

The LIFESENSES LABEX project results from the major joint effort of leading institutions, which created an integrated translational environment to tackle the main hurdles in the fight against sensory impairment.

In 2016, the LABEX funded 15 ongoing scientific projects leading to breakthrough and high impact results. A third call of proposals was organised and according to our Scientific Advisory Board, 12 projects have been funded for a 3 years period.

The Labex LIFESENSES is closely associated to the project LIGHT4DEAF coordinated by the DHU Vision & Handicaps and funded in the frame of the first wave of RHU call for proposals. LIGHT4DEAF aims at tackling Usher syndrome, the most common form of combined deaf-blindness, often associated with vestibular defects. In this frame and due to the reduction of the budget of LIGHT4DEAF, the LABEX funded the development of a serious game which aims to help the re-education of young patients suffering of USHER syndrome.

The 14th and 15th of September 2016, the third retreat of the LABEX LIFESENSES was held for all the people involved in this project. Representatives of Governance bodies and of ANR were invited. During this event, the LABEX researches and strategy were discussed by oral presentations and poster sessions.

In July 2016 José-SAHEL has been officially named chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, director of the the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Eye Center, and the Eye and Ear Foundation Chair of Ophthalmology. This represents a huge opportunity for the members of the LABEX to develop strong collaborations in research and with the common willingness of Université Pierre et Marie Curie and University of Pittsburgh to implement an international program of formation.
