Algorithmic justice in elections – JADE
The aim of the proposal is to continue and develop beyond its current capacities an IDEX research project of the University of Grenoble-Alpes that is currently underway and will come to an end in 2025, the realization of this project having been envisaged as preparatory work for the submission of an ANR project following a proof-of-concept logic. The interdisciplinary project “Justice algorithmique des élections” (JADE) (Algorithmic Election Justice), currently being carried out by the Centre de recherches juridiques (CRJ), the Laboratoire Jean Kuntzmann (LJK) and the Laboratoire d'informatique de Grenoble (LIG), with the support of PACTE and the MIAI (Multidisciplinary Institute in Artificial intelligence) Algorithmic Society Chair, bringing together lawyers, statisticians, computer scientists and a sociologist, aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) and mathematical methods applied to a legal subject for which they have never been used and are of particular interest - the litigation of political elections. Begun in September 2022, this project has produced four direct publications, published or in progress. The aim of the ANR project is to enable this research to continue over the longer term and to be scaled up, by mobilizing new players through the expansion of the consortium, and by meeting human resource requirements, particularly in IT, in order to remove technological barriers in the field of autormatic language triatement and ultimately succeed in obtaining the final product of an algorithmic justice application for political elections. Support from ANR is therefore essential to the success of the scientific trajectory, which could in the longer term be transposed to new fields relating to the use of artificial intelligence in administrative and constitutional litigation.
