Zeolite-Templated Carbon Nitrides: A Novel Approach to Hydrogen Photocatalysis – ZENITH
ZENITH aims to synthesize advanced carbon nitride-based photocatalysts for hydrogen production by water splitting using sunlight. The project tackles the common limitations of carbon nitride materials, such as low surface area and poor nanoporosity, which result in high exciton recombination rates and reduced photocatalytic efficiency. To overcome these challenges, ZENITH proposes the synthesis of Zeolite-Templated Carbon Nitrides (ZTCNs) using zeolites as sacrificial templates. These ZTCNs will feature exceptionally high surface areas, precisely tailored sub-nanometer pores, and a high density of defects. This unique combination of properties is expected to lead to significant advancements in solar-driven photocatalytic hydrogen production.
