Science, research and society at USMB - 3rd part – Science et société à l’USMB 3

Université Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB), a multi-disciplinary university,, stands out for its research excellence, strong territorial roots and broad international outlook.
Its strategic ambition is to develop high-impact training and research to better understand and support environmental, industrial and societal transitions. To achieve this, USMB has specialized in three key areas in which its expertise is recognized: human-environment interactions, services and industries of the future, and cultural heritage and changing societies.
USMB is unique in having 3 campuses located in 2 counties (Savoie and Haute-Savoie). One of the main lines of its science outreach policy is to offer activities throughout the region, in partnership with local structures.
USMB has been working since 2022 to structure its science outreach activities. A science outreach roadmap was approved in February 2024. The result of a wide-ranging consultation on the science outreach practices of researchers and actions already in place, it defines priority areas in line with the university's strategy. It describes the guidance and support offered to researchers, in conjunction with local science outreach partners and national research organizations. A Vice-President Science and Society will be in place from January 2025 with the new presidential team.
The shared ambition of this response is now to consolidate the popularization formats tested and set up thanks to previous ANR SAPS funding. In particular, the idea of conveying messages to the public via short videos to explain the world of research on the majority of USMB's ANR projects is a strong action supported both by the CSTI mission and by USMB central Communication department.

Our habits of systematically using concrete as a building material need to change! That's the message the ANR PACS+ project leaders want to get across. The message will be conveyed orally, through conferences organized by our mean partners (the 2 CCSTI 73 and 74), or in writing, in a popularized article, or during a workshop featuring specific experiments that will be presented during visits or national events such as the Fête de la science or the Nuit des chercheurs.

The first scientific results from the ANR FOVEAL project are very promising, opening up new perspectives for the study of physical performance in both humans and wild animals. It's an interesting subject, and one that's easy to capitalize on, especially if the team involved is already 100% committed to scientific dissemination. A new short video describing the project's scientific approach will be one of the deliverables.
