REsearch DIssemination at UPPA – DIRE III
Starting in 2019, UPPA has committed to a policy of corporate social responsibility based on three objectives: reducing its environmental footprint, the well-being and quality of life of its staff and students, and the societal impact of its research, training and innovation activities. It has defined two values that guide its research activities: reconciling science and society for reasoned progress, and acting within a territory.
These values are embodied in five interdisciplinary missions focused on societal issues.
Working closely with the research organizations present on the site (CNRS, INRAE, Inria), which are also part of the Isite E2S consortium, UPPA wishes to commit itself to the challenges of linking science and society, based on six major guidelines that will guide its actions:
- Disseminate scientific culture on societal issues, based on the five interdisciplinary missions that structure its scientific identity;
- Drawing on the skills of its laboratories to develop a scientific mediation offering that is clear and adapted to all audiences;
- Open up its campuses and laboratories to the general public, involving them in the construction of knowledge;
- Implement shared strategies with partners in the region and beyond (socio-economic and cultural circles, national and international universities, local authorities, CCSTI, education authorities, etc.),
Encourage its scientists and students to play a greater role in civic life (public debates, dissemination of knowledge);
- To place the diversity of actions already undertaken by its academic community within an institutional context that encourages the sharing of experience, the dissemination of best practices and the deployment of new initiatives.
This proactive policy led UPPA, with the support of CNRS, INRIA and INRAE, to apply for the "Science Avec et Pour la Société" label. Obtaining the label in April 2022 enabled us to set up a long-term partnership with these organizations and the Lacq Odyssée association, a CCSTI operating in the same area as UPPA. The actions developed as part of this project will naturally rely on this consortium, and in particular on Lacq Odyssée, which will be involved in the mediation actions as an operator and will contribute its mediation expertise to researchers.
In this context, UPPA is proposing a response to 2 projects that have been awarded the AAP générique 2021:
- LAGOON, led by Vincent PERRIER at UMR 5142 LMAP winner of the AAP Générique in 2021;
- MC2, led by Cyril CALIOT within UMR 5142 LMAP, winner of the AAP Generic in 2021;
Through this response to 2 current ANR projects, UPPA intends to strengthen its mediation actions on science in the making, by promoting it through the systems already deployed within the university (Ébullition(s) magazine, educational kits for major school events, creation of exhibitions, etc.) and at major national (Fête de la Science) and European (European Researchers' Night) events.
