Implementing the FAIR principles with the metadata standard Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) – FAIRwDDI
Many efforts have been made in recent years to put FAIR principles into practice. While the first three FAIR criteria are now widely explored, the R, which is supposed to follow on from them, is much less so. Furthermore, FAIR assessment tools mainly explore metadata and very little of the data itself. The first objective of this project is to focus on the empirical validation of formal criteria concerning aspects linked to the Reusable criterion of the FAIR principles. A second objective is building online tutorials on a standard that has proven its impacts on the reusability aspects, the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI). Finally, a third objective is to build a protocol for upscaling metadata using AI. The harmonised metadata will be made available in a question bank prototype built by the CDSP IT team on internal resources. The Center for Socio-Political Data will be the scientific coordinator and work closely will several well-known organisations for their expertise in data collection and data curation: The DDI Alliance, The Finish Data Archive (FSD), the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and The Research Documentation Centre at the HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences (Budapest, Hungary).
