Analysis of Materials and Interfaces for Energy – AMIE

The AMIE project aims to combine the expertise of the ENS Lyon Chemistry Laboratory (LCH) and ITEN to understand and improve the performance of microbatteries. Those developed by ITEN consist of a stack of cells, themselves made of porous ceramics impregnated with an innovative ionic liquid-based electrolyte. This project is structured around three complementary lines of research. The first concerns the development of an innovative synthesis route for Li-ion battery nanopowders, with the aim of mastering a continuous industrial process. The second is the optimization of ionic liquid-based electrolytes. LCH's recognized expertise in this field, and in particular in the interaction of these compounds with surfaces in confined environments, will be used to formulate solutions adapted to ITEN systems. For its part, the company will contribute its experience with electrolytes in real operating conditions. The third research axis is devoted to the modeling of interfacial phenomena at cell scale, in order to better understand and anticipate chemical and electrochemical reactions at anodic and cathodic interfaces, and thus improve battery durability. In conclusion, AMIE's ambition is not only to enrich our fundamental knowledge of Li-ion batteries, but also to promote major industrial advances by optimizing existing microbatteries and developing new technologies for the future of energy.
