Center for Technical innovations for Health using Physical Exercise – CITSAP

Submission summary

The LabCom CITSAP aims to develop innovative methods and tools for health through physical activity, in order to prevent the onset of chronic pathologies, limit their consequences, promote Good Ageing and home support. Since 2017, the prescription of adapted physical activity has considerably altered patient management, traditionally carried out in rehabilitation centers. This has greatly diversified the possibilities for carrying it out: Maison Sport Santé, physiotherapy center, sports club or even home. This sector of activity is therefore very dynamic, but needs to develop resources adapted to these objectives. The LabCom CITSAP is proposing to set up a long-term collaboration between UR SINERGIES and MTraining to develop valid solutions for the physical activity management of patients, with the aim of innovating in the field of equipment (ergometers, monitoring tools) and methods (management protocols). Ultimately, the aim is to offer alternatives to conventional treatments to optimize their effectiveness and encourage everyone to practice, including people who are far from current treatments for geographical or socio-economic reasons, and to enable frail populations to remain at home. The scientific means to meet this dual objective are the combined use of laboratory studies of physiological/pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical studies in routine situations. CITSAP combines the complementary expertise of MTraining and UR SINERGIES. MTraining has developed by distributing and creating diagnostic and rehabilitation solutions, and has an R&D department dedicated to creating innovative tools to meet targeted, identified needs. However, this department would like to pursue its development by integrating new skills that would enable it to clinically validate its products. The SINERGIES research unit's "Integrated and Personalized Care" axis has developed theoretical and practical expertise in these research areas, enabling it to provide solutions for determining and deploying physical activity-based rehabilitation modalities, thanks in part to innovations developed by companies and which have been the subject of several collaborative projects, notably through CIFRE theses. Consequently, the creation of a LabCom dedicated to technical innovation in this field is a fantastic opportunity to provide high value-added solutions to MTraining's R&D department, and to develop new scientific knowledge. The two partners have identified the following areas of collaboration: Short-term (09/2024-12/2026): the aim is to develop a versatile cycloergometer validated in a supervised environment. This means integrating technological breakthroughs (electric motor/chassis), evaluating physiological and biomechanical responses, program effectiveness and safety, and user acceptance (LivingLab logical co-design). In the medium term (up to the end of 2029), the aim is to improve ergometer servo-control methods (safety and efficiency) in real time. New monitoring tools will be defined to optimize management, with a view to practice outside a supervised environment, thanks to massive data collection and the use of artificial intelligence-based tools. In the long term, we aim to disseminate these solutions outside the traditional, highly supervised environment of rehabilitation centers, to new areas of care ideally patients' homes based on practice methods other than the ergometer initially developed.
