Optimization under uncertainties of fueling stations for electric and hydrogen vehicles – OSIRMEH

Submission summary

Decarbonising the transport sector remains the major challenge in the coming years at a global level. A massive development of mobility solutions based on hydrogen and electricity carriers is expected. For the land-based mobility, this will require the development of multi-energy carriers fueling stations as well as the generation and the storage of low-carbon electricity and hydrogen. This means the stations will have to evolve, with assets for the production, the storage and the distribution of low-carbon electricity and hydrogen. The design and management of fueling stations must be sufficiently robust to guarantee their technical and economic viability, taking into account various uncertainties linked to demand, electricity production and costs. This project aims to build a stochastic optimization approach for the sizing, the management and the control of fueling stations for electric vehicles and hydrogen vehicles, in order to ensure the viability of the system in front of demand, supply and infrastructure uncertainties. The originality of this project is the twofold, relating to 1) the pluridisciplinarity of energy engineering and economics to soundly assess the fueling station management based on demand-response to prices and to renewable’s variability; 2) and the case study diversity, made of mixed mobility (electricity and hydrogen) of heterogeneous vehicle fleet fueling stations covering different geographical areas with their specific consumption behaviour routines, wind and solar energy profiles and infrastructure characteristics. The sensitivity of results to key parameters and to main model assumptions along with their uncertainties will also be tested.
