Mid-IR Saturable Absorber Mirrors for Fiber-based Frequency Combs – MIR-SESAM
This research proposal aims at demonstrating semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors (SESAM) for the 3-5 micron mid-IR spectral range, a technology that revolutionized ultra-fast lasers in the near-infrared, but is crucially missing at longer wavelengths.
And to apply them to recently developed fiber lasers in that spectral range, enabling them with ultra-fast
functionalities. We aim at the demonstration of room-temperature fiber-based frequency combs in the 3-5 micron window, with sub-ps pulses and 50/100 MHz repetition rates. These results will radically advance the field.
