Photoactive surface based on hybrid layered double hydroxides for Disinfection and Decontamination – PhotoSurf2D
The objective of Photosurf2D is to design new structured hybrid coatings demonstrating a photoactivity. Layered double hydroxides (LDH) were selected to support photosensitizers (PS) mainly considering their exchange properties but also for their intrinsic photocatalytic properties.
The originality of the project rests on two integrated pillars: 1) the immobilization of PS into the interlayer spacing of LDH that will be grown directly from a substrate while controlling their morphology and composition and 2) the capability of the coatings to generate reactive oxygen species at the solid-liquid interface under illumination. This property will be mainly evaluated using indirect methods implying the use of molecular probes but also practically by studying the coating performances for 1) bacteria inactivation and 2) pollutants degradation.
The project meets societal challenges dealing with the health and the environment for which a global approach is necessary. The reusability of the elaborated coatings will also be studied in the project.
