Insulating fiberboards from the valorization of wood residues in French Guiana – PANTHER2-Guyane

Submission summary

In French Guiana, it is urgent to develop a biobased alternative to imported insulating products to ensure the construction of durable habitats in response to demographic pressure. The objective of the PANTHER project is to study a new valorisation model of Guyanese wood sector’s by-products for the production of insulating bio-materials. A perspective matching the ambitions of local actors, willing to shift toward a diversification of the uses of forest resources. After identifying the most promising processing route for the production of high-performance insulated fibreboards in a tropical environment, this project aims at model the impact of their implementation on the existing local productive system. The interdisciplinary of the involved partners and the innovative numerical tools developed to federate the acquired knowledge will enable the potential of this new value chain to be assessed as a whole.
