Hybrid Steel-Timber for sustainable construction – MixAB
The objectif of the present project is to develop solutions of composite steel-cross laminated timber (CLT) beams, considering mechanical connection in order to allow its disassembly and reuse. Various researches exist on the mechanical behavior of CLT panels. Some researchers worked on the combination with steel beams. However, none of these researches deal with the fire behavior of such composite steel-CLT beams or consider using cold formed steel sections. The main issue of this work is to evaluate the mechanical and thermomechanical behavior of composite steel-CLT beams by combining experiences of different partners from 3 laboratories : Institut Pascal (IP), Laboratory of Composite Materials for Construction (LMC2) and the Laboratory of Tribology and System Dynamics (LTDS).
The researchers from IP are : Abdelhamid BOUCHAIR (professor), Sébastien DURIF (associate professor, project coordinator) and Salah OULDBOUKHITINE (associate professor). The team from LMC2 in Lyon is composed of Bruno JURKIEWIEZ (associate professor, HDR) and Cécile GRAZIDE (associate professor). Finally, the group will work with Maxime AUDEBERT (associate professor) from LTDS. The collaboration inside IP consists in studying both mechanical and thermal behavior of composite steel-CLT beams. The LTDS will have the mission to develop a numerical model for the thermomechanical study of the composite steel-CLT beam. This model will need to be validated against experimental results through a test campaign led at the CSTB, supported by the project. Finally, the research team of the LMC2 will focus on the study of the global behavior as the diaphragm behavior of such floors and the problems concerning beam and column connection.
