Electron Holography Imaging of Spin waves – EHIS

Submission summary

The goal of the EHIS project is to use, for the first time, Electron Holography as a new experimental tool for spin dynamics mapping in an individual nanostructure. The principle of the method relies on the modification of the magnetic phase images due to the quasi-static components of the magnetization in precession. The major interests of this approach are to benefit from the spatial resolution of electron microscopy (around 1 nm) and to allow for a direct relation between the remanent magnetic state and the local oscillation amplitude of dynamic precession. Therefore, this project will offer an alternative approach to usual methods for spin dynamics imaging for which the spatial resolution is limited to study sub 100 nm devices. During this project, we will validate this new characterization tool by studying model and advanced spintronics and magnonic systems in relation with the development of spin waves based logic and communications devices.
