Performance and Behavior at the nanoscale of new efficient and environmentally Friendly nanolubricants – BeFriend
The development of new high-performance lubricants is essential in order to improve the energy efficiency of vehicles, whether they are powered by thermal or electric motors, and thus to reduce polluting emissions. In recent years, lubrication by nanoparticles has received special attention. Inert and non-toxic when dispersed in lubricants, they present exceptional tribological properties (friction reducing and anti-wear). The objective of this project is to optimize the tribological performance of new metal disulfide nanoparticles (IF-MoS2) when used as lubricant additives and in environmental conditions close to those found in real life applications. The influence of the intrinsic properties of the nanoparticles (size, structure, morphology) on their lubricating properties will be studied as well as their behavior under an oxidizing atmosphere. To achieve these objectives, we will put together the competences of three laboratories in the field of nanoparticle chemistry (ICRELYON), tribology (LTDS) and science and characterization of materials (MATEIS).
