Creativity in Additive Manufacturing

The objective of this ANR project is to propose a suite of tools and methods of creativity in Additive Manufacturing (AM) based on intermediate objects of AM, in order to promote awareness, creativity and organizational integration of the FA to the design teams.

Stakes and objectives

The objective of this ANR project is to propose a suite of tools and methods of creativity in Additive Manufacturing (AM) based on intermediate objects of AM, in order to promote awareness, creativity and organizational integration of the FA to the design teams. The associated scientific lock lies in the design of configurable and efficient methods. The technological lock aims to equip these methods by means of ecological devices, adapted and usable (Nielsen, 93). These devices will ultimately take the form of a Serious Game and an Additive Creativity Case. A roadmap for the organizational integration of knowledge will also be developed. To carry out this project, an experimental plan comprising 3 tasks (Awareness, Increased Creativity then Organizational Integration of Knowledge) is proposed. It relies on the expertise of ENSAM, CESI and Paris Descartes University as well as on an Industrial Experimental Validation Network (RIVE). This is a multidisciplinary project with strong scientific and human challenges, associated with an innovative process

The research hypotheses that we formulate for each of the experimental tasks are:
• Awareness through gamification: the gamification process applied to creativity by AM makes it possible to arouse, at the level of a product or even an industrial sector, the need for AM among design teams.
• Augmented Creativity in AM: the manipulation of experimental objects produced by AF during creativity sessions helps to promote the generation of innovative and relevant concepts.
• Organizational integration of knowledge: the large-scale deployment of knowledge requires a structured organization capable of promoting within companies, universities and engineering schools the tools / methods developed.

The associated scientific lock lies in the design of configurable and efficient methods that will support the experimental tasks of awareness, increased creativity and organizational integration. These will have to adapt to the academic and industrial contexts of the stakeholders of the CREAM project.

The technological lock aims to equip these methods through ecological devices, adapted and usable by manufacturers (in particular from the RIVE) and students (example: Additive Creativity Case).

In addition to validating (or invalidating) the above research hypotheses, the end products that we want to develop in this project are:
• A Serious Game of Awareness of Creativity by AM
• An Additive Creativity Case containing an AMIO set adapted to the context of the case studies envisaged.
• A list of effective strategies for the organizational integration of knowledge within universities, engineering schools and companies and a quantification of the resulting value creation.

The benefits of the project can be categorized as follows:

• Impacts in the field of research: these impacts, , will be at the crossroads of the disciplinary fields of Engineering Sciences, Cognitive Sciences and Social Sciences.
• Educational benefits: the devices created are a Serious Game and an Additive Creativity Case. These will be used in the teaching of creativity and / or Additive Manufacturing of the different entities of the consortium (Arts et Métiers ParisTech and CESI are the top 2 French Engineering Schools in terms of student flow).
• Industrial benefits: the devices created within the framework of this ANR project will be widely distributed to the industrial network (RIVE), but also to industrial contacts of the various laboratories of the consortium.

Finally, the scientific promotion of this ANR project will also be made through publications in peer-reviewed journals (ACL) and in international conferences (ACT-I) from the above-mentioned disciplinary fields. The design of AMIOs will also allow patents to be filed in connection with innovative functions resulting from additive creativity sessions. A budget has been allocated for this patent filing in the financial package of the project.
