A small ring into the bigger picture – Benz
This research program centers on the development of new methodologies in organic chemistry and their applications towards the synthesis of complex molecular scaffolds. Our approach relies on synthetic innovation and is driven by the importance of step economy towards the construction of molecular diversity – both for advancing synthesis and providing semi-conducting polymers (relevant compounds for new material industry). We suggest adding the expertise of both partners to develop a new approach to benzocyclobutene moieties starting from unprecedented donor-acceptor cyclopropanes and, to use those benzocyclobutenes in a controlled radical polymerization process. A subsequent step should deliver a well-defined pi-conjugated system offering semi-conducting properties.
This proposal falls within the context of organic molecular chemistry and is directed toward the production of knowledge. Although the present project is at its fundamental stage, the impact on the industrial synthesis of fine chemicals and material science should not be under evaluated.
