Reconstruction de la Dynamique Haute résolution Océanique Tridimensionnelle des couches Supérieures – redhots
Satellite observations provide an unprecedented global coverage of the surface properties of the ocean circulation. As now commonly reported, the resolution of gridded maps of sea surface height (SSH) produced from altimetry is not better than 200 km, which is the so-called "altimetry gap". The purpose of this project is to fill the altimetry gap by developping a new method, the eSQG method. This method should allow to reconstruct not only the surface currents at small-scale but also the 3-D oceanic circulation (including the vertical velocity) in the first 500m below the surface from a combination of low and high resolution satellite observations such as SST.
