Diagnostic et traitement universels de virus hautement pathogènes – VIGOUROUS

Our consortium addresses the threat posed by hemorrhagic fever viruses (HFV) classified by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as Category A and C high-priority agents including Ebola (EBOV), Marburg (MARV), Lassa (LASV), Rift Valley Fever (RVFV), Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHFV), Nipah (NiV) and Hendra viruses (HeV).
Our consortium has developed an antiviral medical countermeasure of emerging RNA infections relying on the antiviral drug Favipiravir. Favipiravir is orally available, active towards multiple life-threatening RNA viruses and clearly addresses operational needs with demonstrated efficacy, ease of administration and implementation as first line response before a vaccine, if available, could even be instigated. We will here collect data in healthy volunteers and patients receiving favipiravir and we will use these data to develop mathematical models able to propose an optimal method of treatment against each targeted viral agent for post-exposure prophylaxis and curative.
