Participate in the CHIST-ERA 2019 call definition conference from 11 to 13 June

The partners of the ERA-NET CHIST-ERA, including ANR, invite researchers from the fields of Information and Communication Science and Technology (ICST) and environmental science to discuss current research issues and define the topics of the next CHIST-ERA 2019 call for proposals at a dedicated conference in Tallinn, Estonia, from 11 to 13 June. The consortium has already selected two emerging topics: Explainable Machine Learning-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Novel Computational Approaches for Environmental Sustainability. The deadline for registration is 8 June 2019.

The CHIST-ERA conference will include plenary sessions, high-level keynote talks by internationally renowned specialists, pitchs, short talks, scientific poster presentations and brainstorming sessions to identify the challenges to be addressed in the field of ICST. The conference is an opportunity for researchers to take part in defining the themes of the call, present their research, discuss their work with peers and build or strengthen collaborations. A specific information session on the future call (selection process, funding terms, differences from conventional European projects) will also be organised for potential applicants.

Two specific emerging topics

The discussions will aim to describe precisely the issues and research requirements in the two innovative topics of the CHIST-ERA 2019 call selected by the consortium:

  • Explainable Machine Learning-based Artificial Intelligence

This topic refers to explainability in artificial intelligence, i.e. making AI algorithms explainable by giving users accurate information about the reasons that led to a particular decision.

  • Novel Computational Approaches for Environmental Sustainability

This subject corresponds to the development and use of new IT approaches (big data, machine learning, etc.) to study environmental models (system models, resource management etc.), and their sustainability in particular.
