Mercury methylation by microorganisms: from cell to environment – MicroMer
Methylmercury is a potent neurotoxin produced by microorganisms in anaerobic environments. To assess the environmental and human health risks associated with its production, understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms employed by microorganisms to produce methylmercury is a crucial step. This understanding will improve the risk assessment over methylmercury contamination, thereby reducing the exposure of living organisms.
Endocrine disruptive potential of molecules leaching from food containers. Are substitutes safer? – PoLySafe
Development of an instrumented hammer for the estimation of the stability of implants used in orthopedic surgery – OrthoMat
Total hip replacement (THR) surgery is the second most common surgery in France with a total number of around 150,000 patients per year. However, there remain risks of failure which may have dramatic consequences and which depend on the implant primary stability. An increasing number of THR is performed using the press-fit procedure, which consists in impacting the slightly oversized implants within bone tissue using an orthopaedic hammer.
Electroleaching-Electrodeposition For recovery of Precious metals from electrical / electronic equipments – EE4Precious
EE4Precious aims to develop a soft chemistry process for the recovery of precious metals (Ag, Au, Pd, Pt) in waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) especially printed circuit boards. The proposed process is electrochemical and uses ionic solvents.
A new tool for the assessment of Speech Sound Disorders in French-speaking children – EULALIES
Speech Sound Development Disorders (SSDD) affect speech intelligibility and cause difficulties at school and in social life. Their underlying causes and clinical markers remain poorly defined, particularly in French-speaking children. This project brings together researchers and clinicians with the aim of developing (1) a tool for assessing SPSD in French, and (2) normative data on phonological development in French, in France and Quebec.
Mitochondrial and protease dysfunction in progeroid Cockayne syndrome cells and during age-associated processes – CS_AGE
Understanding the molecular defects responsible for premature ageing diseases like Cockayne syndrome (CS), is critical to develop treatments, which are dramatically missing to date, and also elucidate physiological ageing. We identified an altered pathway that involves mitochondrial an metabolic dysfunction in cells from CS patients, and rescued these defects in these cells, by scavenging oxidative/nitrosative molecules, paving the path to therapeutic approaches for CS.
