Origins of divergence – The causes of pre- and post-zygotic isolation barriers in Spodoptera frugiperda – ORIGINS
This project aims at deciphering the factors at play in the divergence of the two sympatric strains of the fall armyworm (FAW) named corn- and rice-strain from their preferences for different host plants . This noctuid moth is an ideal model organism to investigate different reproductive barriers causing speciation. While indistinguishable, the two strains can be differentiated genetically, and they exhibit phenotypic differences that can function as pre-or post-zygotic reproductive barriers.
DihydrouridinE RNA modification marks: written and erased by the same enzyme – DERASE
Cellular RNAs contain chemical modifications originally thought to be static, and utilized to fine-tune RNA structure and function. Some RNA methylations may be reversed to modulate RNA processing. Surprisingly, little attention is paid to reversible modification of tRNA and rRNA. It is quite plausible that reversible modifications at the tRNA and rRNA levels might also be harnessed by nature via evolution to directly affect translation. A point in case here is dihydrouridine (D).
Miniaturized Multi-axis Quantum Sensors – MiniXQuanta
The primary goal of this project is to realize a miniaturized cold-atom interferometer that is capable of measuring the full three-dimensional acceleration and rotation vectors. To simplify and miniaturize the multi-axis sensor, a diffraction grating will generate all the beams required using a single incident laser. Finally, we will realize the first multi-axis interferometer with ultra-cold atoms on a hybrid magneto-grating chip.
Intelligent Estimation Algorithms for Smart Mobility – ArtISMo
The development of controllers with high performance and reliability for connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) will require real-time measurements or estimates of many variables on each vehicle. Examples of variables that are needed for feedback include: longitudinal distances, velocities and accelerations of other nearby vehicles; lateral position of the vehicle in its own lane; vehicle yaw angle; slip angle; yaw rate; steering angle; lateral acceleration; and roll angle.
Longitudinal study on ageing and social inequality – ELVIS
The project analyzes inequalities among different cohorts of older adults (aged 62 to 87) longitudinally according to gender, social background, career paths, family history, residential history, and migration history.
Integration of Microseism and Coda Correlations as a New Dataset for Deep Earth Seismic Imaging – TerraCorr
How to use in a timely manner the wave field produced by major oceanic events and the long-lasting reverberations produced by large Earthquakes to illuminate the deep Earth?
Exploring the dynamics of X-linked gene expression in female B cells: implication in humoral immunity to influenza virus – XiToll-BFlu
The response initiated by TLR7 activation in innate immune cells and B cells is an essential line of defense against RNA viruses. We propose that ICX escape from TLR7 plays a major role in innate and adaptive immunity against certain pathogens such as RNA viruses, as well as in protective immunity in vaccination against influenza virus.
TeraHertz time domain spectrometer for the determination of optical properties of suspended micro and nanoparticles in the air in a controlled environment – STEPSON
TeraHertz time-domain spectrometer for the determination of optical properties of airborne micro and nano-particles in a controlled environment
Towards effIcient bloCkchain-based disTributed SDN ArchiteCtures – TIC-TAC-SDN
There is a growing interest in using blockchain within distributed Software Defined Networking (SDN) architectures to address certain limitations such as state synchronization and trust between distributed SDN controllers. The blockchain technology introduces a significant latency that is incompatible with many Internet of Things applications. TIC-TAC-SDN aims at developing a new adaptive consensus protocol to address this problem.
