Social determinants of health

The French National Research Agency (ANR) launches a joint cross-discipline call in the field of Social Sciences and Biology and Health on the social determinants of health.

This programme intends to stimulate research on the nature, the role and the consequences of the social determinants of health inequity.

Programme objectives are to:

jointly mobilize researchers in social sciences, physicians and researchers in public health, and biologists investigating model systems ;
promote interdisciplinary studies in public health, social sciences, and biomedical sciences ;
perform integrated research and explore interface between different disciplines (epidemiology, biostatistic, social sciences, socio-economy, medicine, cellular and molecular biology) ;
cross socio-economical, psychological, medical and experimental data collected from populations, groups of individuals or persons ;
stimulate the elaboration of new tools for modeling (mathematic, statistic, epidemiology, econometry, system biology), analysis (statistic, biostatistic, comprehensive) and investigation (epigenomic, metabolomic, functional imaging, animal models).

Thematic axes:

1. Social vulnerability: social and environmental factors, leaving customs and biological imprinting

Known, unknown and neglected social determinants
Pathologies associated to the social, familial, or educational history of individuals
Determinants of feeding

2. Organization of health systems, health care, access to heath care and health policies
