Pre-announcement AGROECOLOGY4 2027 – “Accelerating systemic agroecological transitions for resilient and competitive agricultural and food systems”
European agriculture faces increased challenges, particularly due to climate change, resource scarcity, market volatility, and geopolitical instability. Agriculture must ensure food security, preserve the environment, while remaining economically viable and competitive. Addressing these interconnected challenges requires a systemic transition towards resilient and sustainable agricultural and food systems.
The 4th joint call of the AGROECOLOGY Partnership supports collaborative research and innovation projects to accelerate this transition. Building on previous calls and European initiatives, it aims to develop scalable knowledge and solutions adapted to Europe’s diverse agricultural, environmental and socio-economic contexts. Research and Innovation proposals shall apply the multi-actor approach and exhibit co-creation and co-implementation structures, via Living Labs or similar approaches.
The call covers two Topics:
- Topic 1 – Systemic redesign pathways for agroecological transition focuses on designing, testing and implementing agroecological innovations across farming systems, landscapes, territories, value chains and food systems.
- Topic 2 – Agroecology for resilience, food security and enabling transition frameworks focuses on assessing agroecology’s contribution to resilience, food security, strategic autonomy and competitiveness, and on developing scenarios, governance approaches and incentives to support long-term transitions under uncertainty.
