Joint Translational Call for Multinational Research Projects on Pathway Analysis across Neurodegenerative Diseases - JTC 2017

The ANR launches in collaboration with the ERA-NET JP-cofuND a joint call to support multinational, collaborative research projects addressing the combined analysis of neurodegenerative and chronic diseases across disciplines and traditional clinical boundaries.

The present call is supported by 18 member countries: Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

The aim of the call is to finance ambitious, innovative, multinational and multidisciplinary projects which

  • combine experimental approaches from fundamental, pre-clinical and/or clinical research
  • perform network analyses in different neurodegenerative and/or other chronic diseases to elucidate the underlying common and differing mechanisms between the investigated diseases
  • add value to existing research by analyzing diseases across traditional clinical boundaries, technologies and disciplines, thereby gaining deeper understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases.

The cross-disease approaches should address at least one of the following neurodegenerative diseases: Alzheimer disease and other dementias, Parkinson disease and PD-related disorders, Prion diseases, Motor neuron diseases, Huntington disease, Spinocerebellar ataxia, Spinal Muscular Atrophy

The proposals should clearly state the added value acquired through the transnational collaboration and should address the potential impact on disease understanding or for the development of treatments for the neurodegenerative diseases. Data, tools and bioressources generated within the projects should be made available to the public domain and to other research groups. The applicants should consider including patient and public involvement where appropriate or specify future plans in this regard. The proposals should consider the impact of socio-economic factors, gender-related research questions and comorbidities.

The consortia should be composed by a minimum of three and a maximum of six research groups, from at least three different countries. The consortia including groups from presently underrepresented countries Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Slovakia can increase the maximum number of research groups to seven. No more than two research groups should be from the same country. Only the French parties of each selected consortium will be funded by the ANR.

Selected projects can be funded for a duration up to three years. Funding is expected to start end 2017.

Consult the upcoming and current calls of the portal

The portal centralises all information on calls for proposals and calls for applications from ADEME, ANR, Inserm including ANRS, Anses and INCa. It provides a simplified access to upcoming and ongoing calls, giving a greater visibility to funding opportunities. Following their closing date, the calls remain published for a few months.
