Selected – 2013

AGROBIOSPHERE: Viability and Adaptation of Productive Ecosystems, Territories and Resources in the face of Global Changes

Attention: for the 2013 call, the selection process has changed into a 2 stage procedure with submission of pre-proposals and the submission of full proposals on invitation.

During the next decades, the biosphere will face numerous major changes. Agriculture, landscape and, more largely, the whole set of the world ecosystems used by societies will have to adapt. The changes to face are mainly environmental: climate change, desertification, water scarcity, biodiversity erosion, etc. However, changes are also social and economic: raw material scarcity, particularly for fertilizers, social opposition against pesticide molecules and against new developments of biotechnologies, possible instability and volatility of international markets, etc.

The “Agrobiosphere” programme aims to define transitions towards new production systems in a context of adaptation to the future global change. For this, it needs first a better understanding of the ecological functioning of the productive ecosystems. It also leads to enlarge the scope of technological, organisational, economic and social solutions to be mobilised for resolving viability and adaptation problems of productive ecosystems. In other words, it aims to design adaptive trajectories at the scales of production systems and landscapes.
