Mainstreaming Stronger Versions of Circular Economy – MASTRONCE

Submission summary

The MASTRONCE project aims to address the current challenges of the circular economy (CE) by focusing on the upscaling of strongly circular business models, based on sufficiency. Today, CE practices are often limited to optimizing production processes and recycling activities, which are insufficient to truly decouple economic growth from material footprint. MASTRONCE seeks to overcome these barriers by identifying the necessary levers to promote the widespread adoption of disruptive models such as Product-Service Systems (PSS) and repair in key sectors. The project will also develop new financial and non-financial indicators to better measure progress towards a stronger version of circular economy, while mapping the emerging skills and professions needed to support this transition. Additionally, the project will address the challenges posed by the increasing integration of electronics and software into products, proposing concrete solutions to extend product lifespans and promote sustainable business practices.
Leveraging a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach, the project will bring together major industrial partners such as Renault, Schneider Electric, Fnac-Darty, Decathlon, Everever, members of the Club de la Durabilité and the Righ-to-Repair coalition, as well as actors from the Social Economy (Halte à l'Obsolescence Programmée, ESS France, Emmaüs, Envie), providing access to valuable data and case studies. The project will also involve training experts from Circulab and international researchers from the Quebec Circular Economy Research Network (RRECQ).
By developing practical tools and policy recommendations, this project aims to profoundly transform productive systems towards a more resilient and sustainable economy.
