Desirable participatory sobriety 2050 – SATIABLE

Submission summary

The objective of the SATIABLE project is to consolidate a participatory science methodology about the human and societal issues of technological research and les impacts of sociotechnical innovation. This question is tackled through the use case of energy sobriety which represents the tension between technological innovation and social innovation that is common to most of the innovation issues.
The scientific and methodological objectives are based on a scientific question: How to sustainably and effectively involve civil society actors (citizens, businesses, students, associations, artists, etc.) in defining interdisciplinary research agendas to act on the human and societal issues of technological innovations.
The SATIABLE project is coordinated by the Innovacs Federation (UGA, CNRS, Grenoble INP), which brings together 19 member laboratories in SHS and engineering sciences, and co-led by the Energ'Y Citoyennes association, which develops empowering actions in the Grenoble area to control energy consumption and reduce the energy insecurity.
Three partners complete the consortium: the Energy Transition Observatory (OTE, a structuring research program of the Idex of the University of Grenoble-Alpes), the CCAS of the city of Grenoble and the Grési21 association. The project benefits from a label of the Tenerrdis competitiveness cluster. The 18-month work program is based on the initial return on experience from Innovacs and OTE to propose the bases of a methodological experiment articulated in three workpackages which articulate workshops of "Retrospection" (WP1), "Enablement" (WP2) and "Projection" (WP3). This scaling-up experiment will mobilize a community of approximately 100 to 150 people composed of scientists, citizens, students, representatives of civil society (companies, communities, associative networks). This methodological experiment will produce scenarios proposing a shared vision of possible models of energy sobriety for society on 2050 (WP3), but also a knowledge platform, feedback and data (WP1) and field experiments to concretize the first possible actions in connection with the scenarios.
This field work is achieved with two workpackages dedicated to methodological capitalization and the transfer of know-how:
• A methodological formalization workpackage that will produce 1/ a description and documentation of the Explorations 2050 method process, 2/ a training framework (WP4),
• A transfer, dissemination and replicability workpackage (WP5) that will lead a series of workshops to transfer results towards two ecosystems of stakeholders: the actors of energy sobriety in the regions, and the actors of the science-society dialogue on the societal issues of sociotechnical innovation.
