Making ethnic and migrant minority survey data FAIR – FAIRETHMIGQUANT

Submission summary

With the growing number of survey data being produced in Europe coupled with the rapidly developing open science movement, the time is ripe to make survey data FAIR: findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable. Our project, FAIRETHMIGQUANT, will therefore transform this aspiration into reality for the specific study field of the integration of ethnic and migrant minorities (EMMs). By expanding on and complementing the work undertaken by the research network ETHMIGSURVEYDATA (set up through COST Action 16111) to make survey research on EMMs' integration FAIR, FAIRETHMIGQUANT will: (1) include French surveys on EMM integration into a metadata registry being developed through ETHMIGSURVEYDATA, (2) conduct a French pilot for building an EMM component of the CESSDA-led European Question Bank (EQB), (3) leverage the lessons learned from the pilot to scale up the EMM component of the EQB to other surveys compiled by ETHMIGSURVEYDATA in 9 other European countries, and (4) foster strategic and durable relationships between French user communities and data service providers in France and Europe, so they can jointly contribute to France’s participation in the open science movement. More importantly, as FAIRETHMIGQUANT is a user community-driven project, the resulting outputs will offer concrete evidence on the value-added of including user communities in FAIR-focused initiatives, as well as provide clear guidance on how to adeptly make research data from the social sciences open and accessible in the short and long run. National and international collaborations with IC Migrations, PROGEDO, GESIS, and CESSDA will ensure that this project will have a significant impact on the open data agenda in the French social sciences and be strategically positioned in the international scene of the open data movement within Europe.
