MIMAC (MIcro-tpc MAtrix of Chambers) : A new generation detector for non-baryonic dark matter search – MIMAC

Submission summary

Astrophysical observations at different scales show that most of the matter in the Universe would be of a different nature than the standard one (baryonic), still unknown, called non baryonic. The direct detection of these particles is a major challenge of physics and astrophysics. In order to detect these particles, which would build our galactic halo, we propose to develop a new detector based on the double detection: ionization and recoil track reconstruction. In particular, this project proposes to build two modules ( one with 3He , and the other with CF4 ) using micromegas detectors adapted to pixellized anodes, to validate all the features needed for this kind of detection : electron – recoil discrimination, background rejection and track reconstruction. The different validation experiments are included in the project.
