Restricted Boltzmann Machines for Modelling Physical Systems: Theory and Applications to Proteins – RBMPro
so-called mutational landscape) are still out-of-reach, except for short proteins. It is therefore tempting to
Results of the second ANR FLASH call "Great Tohoku Earthquake"
Nine French-Japanese proposals have been selected within the framework of the ANR Flash (*) call "Great Tohoku Earthquake". This call had been open from June 17th to July 18th, 2011, following the major earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on 11th March 2011; it was coordinated with the JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) in order to strengthen the French-Japanese cooperation on those fields. The French scientific community did react very positively, with 33 proposals submitted.
Rethinking Modern Politics Through Jewish and Islamic Sources – REPOLIJIS

Retinal stem cells activity in neural tissue growth and repair – EYE-STEM
Unlike mammal retina, that of amphibian grows continuously thanks to active retinal stem cells. Besides, such cells are able to contribute to retinal regeneration following lesion in these species. Investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes in the frog could help to set up rational stem-cell-based therapy procedures for human retinal degenerative diseases, such as retinitis pigmentosa or age related macular degeneration.
Retinoids and regulation of anterior Hox genes: the evolutionary history of breaking collinearity – RAnteriorHox

Rheology of unsaturated granular materials – RheoGranoSat
Our project is to develop original experimental and numerical tools allowing a study of the rheological behavior of these materials, from solid regime to flow, integrating a characterization of their microstructure. The study will be carried out on a model material. These coupled studies should allow us to establish the link between microstructure and macroscopic behavior, in order to ultimately develop a complete model of macroscopic behavior of unsaturated granular materials.

Role of Doubly Uniparental Inheritance of mitochondria in maintaining reproductive isolation – DRIVE
Mito-nuclear genetic incompatibilities (MNI) have recently gained recognition as a cause of hybrid breakdown and reproductive isolation. These interactions have bearing on genetic divergence and speciation. The remarkable system of doubly uniparental inheritance (DUI) of bivalves allows investigating the role of MNI in maintaining reproductive isolation. Project DRIVE will investigate the implications of MNI in population of the Baltic tellin, a DUI species.
