optical countermeasure to circadian rhythm sleep disorders in shiftwork – CHRONOMOFOS
to night and shift work. Essilor has an exceptional knowledge and know-how in technologies of light
Dynamics of an arc volcano with extruding lava domes, Merapi (Indonesia): from the magma reservoir to eruptive processes – DOMERAPI
On andesitic volcanoes, magma reaches the surface as domes that destabilize gravitationally or explosively to form pyroclastic flows that travel kilometers along the flanks of the volcano or form vertical explosive columns. These different eruptive styles generate drastically different human and environmental impact.<br />DOMERAPI proposes a multi-disciplinary approach that involves and integrates geological and geophysical methods in order to improve our understanding of these magmatic processes.
Plates with blind holes for harnessing of flexural waves – PLATON
The PLATON project aims at exploring fundamental as well as applied aspects of flexural wave interaction with periodic or random arrays of strongly coupled subwavelength resonators. Of particular interest is the possibility to investigate new wave phenomena by designing artificial meta-structures for elastic waves similar to the ones investigated in optics or electromagnetic waves, such as photonic crystals and metamaterials.
Phenotypic plasticity and social life facilitate the evolution of new phenotypes in ants – ANTEVO
Ants have evolved an exceptional diversity of castes (winged queens, wingless queens, workers, soldiers, …) from an ancestrally homogeneous system. We study the developmental and evolutionary mechanisms involved, with special focus on developmental anomalies and social life.
"Differences of potential" DifdePo History, poetics and aesthetics of Oulipo – DifdePo
The DifdePo project (2013-2015) aims at questioning the «differences of potential« of the group Oulipo (Workshop for potential literature), founded by Raymond Queneau and François Le Lionnais in 1960 and still in activity, through three main angles: history, poetics and aesthetics.
Metaphysics of science: levels, individuals, dispositions in the light of present day science – Metascience
The aim of the Metascience project is to make a significant contribution to the metaphysics of science on the basis of the detailed analysis of key concepts in current experimental sciences, above all physics, biology and psychology. We understand “metaphysics of science” as the field of research whose objective is the analysis of the fundamental concepts structuring scientific research – e.g., those of individual, cause, or disposition.

MorphoDYNAmics of tidal inlets: 3D numerical MOdelling and impacts on pollutant circulation. – DYNAMO
Numérical modelling, relationships with adjacent shorelines and impacts of morphological changes on pollutants pathways.
BActerial production of Glycerol (di)Ether Lipids : Biogeochemical, (palaeo)environmental and evolutionary implications – BAGEL
This project aims to explain the physiological, environmental and evolutionary reasons for the presence of certain lipids (called glycerol ethers) in new bacteria isolated from a normal marine environment, while these lipids have been considered typical of microorganisms living in extreme environments (e.g., very hot).
Adaptation strategies and bio-economic regulations in fragile environment: the role of the "desert kites" – GLOBALKITES
GLOBALKITES focuses on defining variability and functionality of major archaeological stone-made structures called «desert kites«. Often considered as hunting traps, the kites could have been also used for animal domestication. In a broader spatial context (from Arabia to Caucasus) and temporal one (from the Neolithic to present), we propose an interdisciplinary approach at the crossings of anthropology, geomatics and archaeological sciences.
