The Ceremoniac project aims to analyse and understand the rationales behind the inflation of ceremonial expenditure in Central Asian societies from the end of the Soviet period until today. It aims at questioning the production or reinforcement of inequalities, generated by these practices while they remain powerful vectors of social cohesion.

Sex chromosome and sex determination evolution in mammals – SEXYMUS
Except a few species, mammals have an extremely conserved sex determining system. However, within the African pygmy mice (genus Mus), we uncovered an extraordinary diversity of sex chromosomes. This diversity and their phylogenetic proximity with the laboratory mouse make them an excellent model. Hence, in the SEXYMUS project, we will investigate the evolution of mammalian sex determination and the evolutionary modification of sex chromosomes using the pygmy mice as proxies.

We aim to create new bilayer graphene nanoribbons as a superior alternative to currently proposed nanoribbons, proposed as nanocomponents for future electronics. They will be created from large single walled carbon nanotubes, which collapse due to their diameter. This new system has cavities along the collapsed edges which will be then filled. This will allow us to modify the conductivity and introduce charge and spin carriers with exceptional mobility.

We will combine organic geochemistry, micro-infra-red spectroscopy, culturing and genetic techniques, and microscopic analyses (optical, TEM, SEM) to determine the biological affinities and the macromolecular characteristics of individual microfossils, including acritarchs and dinoflagellates. Our study should resolve - at least partly - the question about the origin of the dinoflagellates, and the biological affinity of the acritarchs.
