Phase diagram in NaxMO2 layered oxides – Dinamo
project might allow discovering new materials with exceptional electronic properties.
ALTER-TRACK – ALTERnative TRACKing
Positioning and fleet tracking systems are very extremely dependant on satellite networks to work, both for the position and its transmission.<br />The project aims at breaking those strong limitations by designing a comprehensive solution dependable, reliable and resilient for vehicule tracking.
On the Government of Familial Feelings: Towards a Sociology of Contemporary Ethopolitics – ETHOPOL
ETHOPOL is a research program hosted by the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès. Five social scientists collaborate to analyze the diversity of family regulations and their subjective consequences. Members of this team work on adoption, medically assisted reproduction, surrogacy, paternity testing, and the regulation of birth; they aim to study how institutions frame families and modify the way subjects feel, think, and act.
Popular logics for digital culture – POPLOG
This project starts from the observation that we know little about the specificities of relation to internet in popular classes. There are many studies on the uses of digital technology, but they are primarily interested in innovative uses of urban, youth, and graduates. There are many researches on popular classes, but they did not question the transformations induced by the digititalization of culture and the development of electronic communication.
Improving the Accuracy of the SUrface Mass balance of Antarctica – ASUMA
The ASUMA project aims to quantify the recent variations of the Surface Mass Balance (SMB) of Antarctica and their relationship with climate, atmospheric circulation and moisture origin. We will acquire data during three field trips. The overarching task of the project is the realization of a long distance traverse to collect firn cores and to perform measurements on the surface snow physics. Measurements will be compared to model outputs and remote sensing data.
Rebuilding after an earthquake: ancient experiences and innovations in Pompeii – RECAP
Faced with recurrent risks, did Roman builders develop earthquake-resistant construction techniques? An international initiative, RECAP project follows a multi-disciplinary approach, calling upon the archaeology of construction, sociology, IT, structural engineering and geology, in order to determine the practicalities of reconstruction and the technological choices adopted..
Sulfate Reducing Bacteria: mechanisms of biomineralization and preservation of biosignatures of a key metabolism of Earth history – SRB
Microbial metabolisms such as bacterial sulfate reduction are involved in the formation of key minerals widespread in the rock record, and might have played a central role in the coupling of S, C and Fe biogeochemical cycles in Earth history. Elucidating their role in ancient environments requires the use of robust biosignatures of these metabolisms. We explore these mechanisms of biomineralization using interdisciplinary tools, with the aim of defining / refining such biosignatures.
Wetting on Real Surfaces : Dynamics and Nanoroughness – REALWET
Rain running down a car windshield, butter sloshing around a Teflon pan… Despite the ubiquity of the phenomenon, we still do not fully understand how a liquid moves over a solid surface. Real surfaces are rough, chemically heterogeneous, coated with molecular layers, or even all of the above, complicating attempts to isolate fundamental physical principles. We believe that in order to build a consistent picture of wetting dynamics one must first understand the wetting on real surfaces.
Cognition and tool-use economy. Insights from experimental, neuro- and comparative psychology – ECOTOOL
Tools offer an economy by allowing the user to reduce the various costs (e.g., time) required to accomplish a task. If we keep in mind that tool use is also a matter of behavioral economy, several questions arise. Does the human tool-use propensity reflect the human ability to excel to direct toward the most economical options? Does cumulative cultural evolution reflect the human ability to extract from tool behaviors performed by conspecifics the ones that are the most economical?
Crystallisation of seeded Silicon, impact of Light Impurities and Defects – CrySaLID
Answer to the challenge of the control of the final crystalline structure (growth from seeds, orientation selection, and parasitic grains) of the defects and of light impurities: multi-scale experiments and simulations.
